Brisbane City Rollers (BCR), was the first Australian co-ed roller derby league, established in 2008 and officially incorporated early 2009. Grass-roots saw BCR based in central Brisbane until better venue conditions and availability were found in Ipswich (to the west of the city).
Back in 2010 BCR partnered with surrounding leagues to create an Open Season bouting event that covers a majority of the year allowing home teams from surrounding local leagues to get together to compete and ‘share the derby love’ and thanks to the combined efforts of Queensland Roller Derby League (QRDL) every year this event grows larger with more surrounding leagues joining in on the action.
Other major league events that the BCR league regularly participates in are the Queensland tournament Tropicarnage Cup, the national tournament The Great Southern Slam (Ladies Nationals) and AMRD Nationals (Men’s Nationals). Members of the league have represented Australia at both men’s and women’s Roller Derby World Cups.
Brisbane city rollers is a recognised co-ed member of the Mens Roller Derby Association (MRDA),which is the International governing body for Mens flat track roller derby.
BCR boasts fundamental classes for the fresh meat skater, referee and non skating official training for both skating and non skating members, three womens home teams/two travel teams and one mens home/travel team. New and transferring skaters and officials are always welcome.
